Ho Ho Holidays During Co Co COVID

With COVID on our minds, the holidays will be different this year for all of us, but that doesn’t mean they have to less than fun and fabulous! Let’s be honest, we deserve it after all we've been through this year. Here are some suggestions on how to have a safe holiday season:

  1. Keep it small with your immediate family. There’s no greater gift than the gift of health. You are protecting your loved ones and the greater public by sticking with the people around you and not opening up your circle. I know this is hard around the holidays, especially with grandparents, but keeping our distance from them is showing them how much we care.
  2. Don’t go on a vacation that involves entering a hot spot or being in contact with others who are not taking safety precautions. Taking a risk, like a vacation to a hot spot, puts yourselves in harms way, and risks bringing the virus back with you into your local community.
  3. Keep it outdoors. If you do go to see family or friends, keep the celebration outdoors with social distancing and be sure to wear masks.

8 Tips for Safe Holidays with Kids at Home:

Aside from coronavirus precautions, there are other ways to ensure safe holidays 🎁🎄, especially for those of you with kids:

  1. If you have an artificial tree at home, be sure that it is fire resistant.
  2. Keep potentially dangerous plants out of reach of kids, including mistletoe berries, Jerusalem cherry and holly cherry.
  3. If you have a tree at home, keep it a safe distance away from radiators, fireplaces, and portable heaters.
  4. Watch what goes in your kids mouths! Some materials used for decoration around the holidays contain lead, so be sure to keep the decorations out of the mouths of your children (and pets)!
  5. If you put up string lights, garland, or any other rope-like-decorations, make sure they are high enough to be out of reach of children.
  6. If you put out candles, make sure they are lit when an adult is present, and don't leave them burning when you are not in the room. Little kids can easily knock over a candle that is sitting out on a low table or cabinet.
  7. If you have small children, watch out for decorations that look like candy or food! A lot of holiday decorations are brightly colored and can end up in this category, especially for young kids :)
  8. Be careful with your fireplace, especially if you're opening presents by the fire. Sometimes in the excitement of tearing wrapping paper by the fire, accidents can happen, so make sure that wrapping paper ends up thrown away.

Blueberry wishes you a wonderful and magical holiday. Decorating your home and bringing in the holiday spirit is a fun tradition passed on through generations. It also helps our children to feel connected, at their own level, to the holiday and its meaning. We hope you enjoy your existing traditions and can make new ones in this exceptional time!
