Roughhousing - From The Living Room to The Emergency Room
Table of Contents

Freak accidents happen all the time with children. Whether it's a random case of nursemaid's elbow, your child starts gushing blood from their ear out of nowhere, or everyday roughhousing turns into a medical emergency.Such was the case with Suzie, a mom of two and a Blueberry member.

Roughhousing Gone Wrong

One night, her two children played in the living room when one of them unfurled a blanket that just so happened to have a dog bone wrapped up in it.Kids do the darndest things, don't they? All of a sudden, the dog bone whipped out of the blanket like a homing missile finding its target on the chin of Suzie's five-year-old.Suzie returned home shocked to find her five-year-old with blood gushing out of her chin. Oh boy. As fate would have it, these accidents seldomly occur during normal hours, and this incident was no different. It was about 7:00 p.m., and her pediatrician's office was closed, so Suzie's only choice was to visit the E.R.

Blueberry Can Coach You Through the E.R.

However, Suzie contacted her Blueberry pediatrician first because she knew the E.R. didn't have staff specialized in treating children. "They got back to me in ten minutes. It was really reassuring to know if you need to go to the E.R." Suzie's Blueberry pediatrician coached her on what to ask at the E.R. and braced her for what the E.R. would likely do for this situation. To Suzie's surprise, she received a follow-up from Blueberry double-checking her child for an infection or any other issues. She said she, "was pleasantly surprised by the follow-up," and that she, "didn't expect the service to be so involved."Sometimes the best course of action is to see a medical professional in-person, but Blueberry can help with that too! Our pediatricians are a resource for parents to contact to understand what in-person visits will entail. Additionally, our doctors offer a virtual hand to hold throughout your visit and after. You no longer will feel overwhelmed as physicians talk at you. Our service will provide you with advice that will empower you to work with your in-person physician to find the best treatment for your child.
